Ladbrokes League 1: Dunfermline to end Forfar’s reign

There’s plenty to play for this weekend in Ladbrokes League 1, with table-topping Forfar welcoming league favourites Dunfermline in a battle between the best defence and the best attack.

Elsewhere, Brechin look to get their first points of the campaign away at Stranraer and Peterhead could go second if results go their way.

Airdrieonians v Cowdenbeath

Cowdenbeath have had a jolly good time of it against Aidrieonians in recent years, and are unbeaten against Gary Bollan’s side in the last eight meetings.

That run could be on the line this weekend however, with Cowden conceding 11 times in their two away games thus far, while the Diamonds have won successive league games entering this tie.

Dig a little deeper however and things aren’t quite so clear cut. It was free-scoring Dunfermline and Stenhousemuir who fired those 11 strikes past Colin Nish’s defenders, while Airdrieonians’ two wins have come against Peterhead and pointless Brechin City.

A low-scoring game may be in the offing here, with the hosts boasting the second-tightest defence in the league, against the Blue Brazil’s second-weakest strike force.

Best Bet: Correct Score 1-1 @ 11/2

Forfar Athletic v Dunfermline

Forfar are the only unbeaten side left in League 1, thanks largely to a defence which has allowed just three goals to get the better of them this term.

Dick Campbell’s side prevailed three times in their quartet of meetings with the Dunfermline last season, while a draw in the other encounter ensured an unbeaten campaign over the men from East End Park.

This time around however it could be somewhat different for the Sky Blues.

The Pars continued their goalscoring prowess last time out with a 3-1 win against Stranraer, continuing a run which has seen both teams score in every Dunfermline league game this season.

In addition, Allan Johnstone has already led his team to victory at Station Park this season, running out 3-0 winners in the League Cup.

An early red card hampered Forfar that day, but as the league’s meanest defence meets the sharpest attack, something has to give.

Best Bet: Dunfermline -1 at 11/4

Peterhead v Albion Rovers

Albion head to Peterhead plenty aware that their form away from home needs sharp improvement.

In two away trips this season they’ve lost both, conceding five times without reply in the process, and they now head to a Peterhead side who conquered Dunfermline a fortnight ago.

Rovers failed to win either of their two visits to Balmoor last season, going down 2-0 back in April in addition to a 1-1 draw in December.

Albion haven’t kept a clean sheet away from home in all competition since mid-March, a run of eight games ,and with Rory McAllister in superb form for the Blue Toon, it could be a tough afternoon for Darren Dods’ boys.

Best Bet: Peterhead to win to nil @ 13/5

Stranraer v Brechin City

Having finished second and fourth respectively last season, neither Stranraer nor Brechin are enjoying the same success this time around.

Aside from Stranraer’s opening day win over Cowdenbeath, neither of these sides have picked up a point.

Both sides are managing to score goals here and there.

In fact between them they’ve scored in every game bar one, but neither team are yet to claim a clean sheet.

A win would be greatly appreciated by either club, but that could just see them cancelling each out.
