Ladbrokes Championship Review: Hibs and Falkirk to challenge?
Hibs and Falkirk signalled to Rangers that they are not going to have it all their own way this season, as the pair recorded impressive victories in the Ladbrokes Championship.
The Hibees put in their most impressive performance of the season to date, in a one-sided 3-0 romp over Alloa in Leith. Alan Stubbs has made a number of eye catching additions to his squad this summer, and it was the highly impressive duo of John McGinn and Liam Henderson who ran the show.
Falkirk produced a remarkable second half comeback to defeat St Mirren and make it four league wins in-a-row. The Buddies looked to be cruising to victory after first half goals from Scott Agnew and Stephen Mallan sent them into the break 2-0 up.
But it was Peter Houston’s men that had the last laugh, goals from Luke Leahy and a John Baird penalty brought them back to parity and with the last kick of the game Baird hammered home the winner.
Rangers extended their winning run to six games with a routine 3-0 triumph at home to bottom side Livingston. Skipper Lee Wallace gave the Ibrox side the perfect start with the early opener.
The prolific Martyn Waghorn doubled the lead to extend his lead atop the goal scorers chart, and Nicky Law added the gloss to the scoreline with a late third.
Elsewhere, there was stalemate at Cappielow, as Morton and Dumbarton played out a uninspiring 0-0 draw. The home side looked the more likely to break the deadlock, but after losing Conor Pepper to a red card they had to settle for the point.
Finally, Raith Rovers got back to winning ways as a second half Kyle Benedictus strike was enough to see off the visiting Queen of the South. The home keeper Kevin Cuthbert was in inspired form as he made numerous fine saves to keep his clean sheet in tact
