Ladbrokes Championship: Relentless Rangers won’t slip

This weekend sees the top three in the Ladbrokes Championship head off on away ventures, but with each of their hosts struggling for form, Rangers, Falkirk and Hibernian could be coming home happy on Saturday evening.

Meanwhile Queen of the South welcome a very much in-form Greenock Morton to Palmerston Park.

Alloa v Falkirk

It has been a tough campaign for Alloa thus far, with a win over Dumbarton providing their only points on the board.

Visitors Falkirk sit second in the table, five points behind Rangers but with a game in hand.

Peter Houston’s men are unbeaten this term, and they’re only dropped points came on the opening weekend at Morton.

They’ve since claimed four wins each by single-goal margins including both of their away fixtures.

To compound Alloa’s woes, they lost all four meetings with the Bairns last season, conceding three times in the two clashes at Recreation Park.

Best Bet: Falkirk to win by 1 goal @ 14/5

Dumbarton v Rangers

Having picked up one point from a possible 12, Dumbarton won’t be looking forward to the visit of Rangers this weekend.

After winning their opening two games, the Sons lost three in succession before claiming a 0-0 draw at Morton.

Mark Warburton and James Tavernier claimed August’s Ladbrokes Championship Manager and Player of the Month awards respectively, and the Gers enter this match in scintillating form.

The men from Ibrox are yet to drop a point, and can take further confidence from their five wins over Dumbarton last season, four of which by two goals or more.

Stephen Aitken’s men haven’t conceded more than twice in a league game this term, but Martyn Waghorn and co could be just a little too much for the Sons.

Best Bet: Rangers -2 @ 11/10

Livingston v Hibernian

Hibernian are starting to find their feet after a wobbly start to the season.

Alan Stubbs’ men go in search of a third successive win against a Livingston side propping up the table with a solitary point.

Livi didn’t have much success against the Hibees last season either, losing all four meetings including two heavy losses at Almondvale.

The struggling Lions have conceded seven times in their last two games, and could be up against it with Hibs only failing to score against Rangers.

In addition, the Easter Road side have won both halves in their last two games.

Best Bet: Hibernian/Hibernian @ 12/5

Queen of the South v Greenock Morton

Morton have quietly gone about their business this season, sitting in the top half with just one defeat from their six games.

Jim Duffy’s men have picked up eight points from a possible 12 and head to a Queen of the South side sliding down the table.

It has been very much a case of win or bust for the Doonhammers, who began the season with a trio of wins, only to see it unravel with a trio of defeats.

Their only victory at Palmerston Park came over a month ago against Alloa, and they’ve since suffered defeats on home soil to Rangers and St Mirren.

Queens face Falkirk and Hibernian after this weekend, and they’ll be eager to arrest the worrying form before facing two of the top three teams in the league.

Despite Morton’s solid start, three draws hints at a lack of conviction and that could allow the hosts to snatch a much-needed point.
