Ladbrokes Championship: Raith making sure they’re in the mix

Many of the plaudits will continue to come the way of Rangers following another impressive display but below the Glasgow giants an intriguing battle is taking shape in the Ladbrokes Championship.

Raith Rovers recorded a third straight victory by beating Dumbarton 1-0 in Kirkcaldy, a win that puts them third in the league and level on points with second-placed Falkirk.

Lewis Toshney’s second-half header was the difference between the two sides in an even encounter.

At the other end of the table these are worrying times for Alloa Athletic. The Wasps were thumped 3-0 by Livingston at Recreation Park to hand the visitors a comprehensive first win of the campaign and in doing so consign their hosts to the bottom of the league.

Liam Buchanan bagged a brace against his former club while Jordyn Sheerin was also on the scoresheet as Livi ran riot.

Hibernian were forced to share the points with St. Mirren in Edinburgh with Calum Gallacher giving the visiting Buddies an 18th-minute lead before Martin Boyle equalised just before half-time.

Falkirk and Queen of the South’s match-up also ended in a draw with their Friday night encounter finishing 0-0 following an entirely forgettable game.

The Bairns’ Bob McHugh forced Queens goalkeeper Robbie Thomson into making a save in the second-half but the action didn’t get much better than that.

And finally, Rangers continue to show their Championship rivals no mercy with their 4-0 drubbing of Greenock Morton maintaining their 100 per cent record in the league.

Top goalscorer Martyn Waghorn’s hat-trick was supplemented by yet another James Tavernier strike as the Gers go marching on.
