Kamara: Aguero’s omission from Man City starting XI baffled me

One thing that I took out of the Champions League fixtures is that if Sergio Aguero is fit enough to be on the bench for Manchester City then he is fit enough to start.

For me, he’s either fit or he’s not, there’s no middle ground. He’s too good and has too much quality not to be one of the first names on the team sheet when he is available.

You would have thought that the Champions League game was as important, if not more important than the Crystal Palace game last Saturday, and although he limped out of that, you would have thought he would be straight back if it didn’t rule him out of the match entirely.

City have been unlucky with injuries this week with Vincent Kompany adding to the problems when limping off in midweek, because he was class at Selhurst Park and at the Etihad, holding the back-line together.

But in those situations it’s down to their other players to step up to the plate when that happens.

It’s a strange one because with their reputation of falling short in Europe, I would have thought their concentration levels would have been spot on to at least get to the semi finals in the competition, because that would show real progress.

They can still do it but they have given themselves a mountain to climb.

They need to find a way to ensure that when it comes to the European nights that they are ready for them and at the moment it doesn’t seem to be the case.

Crystal Palace had a real shot at ending City’s 100 per cent record last week running them really close.

But they dug in and found a result, but Manuel Pellegrini’s men didn’t seem to show that determination and steeliness against Juventus.

It will be interesting to see how they fare on Saturday.

West Ham playing really well against Newcastle on Monday and with City suffering their first set-back of the season and people will be wondering whether they can get something out of them.

It’s a tough one to call, but you can’t right City off after one bad result in Europe when they’ve got a 100 per cent record in the league, but it’s a bet to nothing for West Ham.

Before the games in the week, no one would have given them a chance, but the way that the results have gone, they can go up to Manchester and give it a real good go to take some points off the league leaders.
