Huddersfield need heroic performance to overcome Wigan

After a brilliantly intense and competitive Super 8s campaign, it’s semi-final time for the remaining Super League teams in their respective bids to reach the Grand Final.
A late match-winning try from Leeds Rhinos’ Ryan Hall last Friday at Huddersfield denied Wigan the chance to claim the League Leaders Shield and shifted them into this semi-final match up with the Giants.
That may be no bad thing for the Warriors however, who are 2/5 with Ladbrokes to claim victory at the DW Stadium.
The Giants – 2/1 outsiders for the win – are aiming to reach a first ever Grand Final, while Wigan have been there seven times previously, including in each of the last two seasons.
The Warriors have prevailed in each of the two sides’ three meetings this term, once by a 14-point margin and twice by an eight-point difference.
Shaun Wane’s men are 9/2 to win by a 6-10 margin this time around, while an 11-15 point success can be backed at 11/2.
Huddersfield last won this contest in May last year with a 31-22 success and they’re 9/1 to claim victory by between six and 10 points.
There’s every reason this could simply inspire Paul Anderson’s team to produce a famous victory, but the two sides also met in play-off qualification last year and the Warriors ran out rampant victors by a 57-4 scoreline.
Rewind another 12 months and Wigan prevailed again at the same stage, albeit by a narrower 22-8 final result.
Huddersfield haven’t finished outside the top four since 2012, but their recent exploits in the post-season, to use an Americanism, understandably leaves many doubts over how they go about this season’s encounter against the three-time Grand Final champions.
