Double Woods arrival gives Ross County healthy boost

With deadline day over for another year, clubs and fans alike are reflecting on whether they made the most of this summer’s transfer window and for Ross County it appears to be a solid summer in the market.
Richard Foster, Andrew Davies and Chris Robertson all made their way to Ross-Shire in the off-season with the club in high hopes of consolidating their Ladbrokes Scottish Premiership credentials, and perhaps preparing for a challenge into the European places.
The club – have rounded off the window with a couple more handy additions.
Having departed for Shrewsbury Town just three months ago, Martin Woods has made an early return to Dingwall after agreeing to terminate his two-year contract with the English League One side.
Family issues are rumoured to have played their part in Woods’ return to the Staggies, where he impressed last season making 27 Premiership appearances.
The 29-year-old’s arrival gives Jim McIntrye plenty of options in the middle of the park, with up to five central midfielders now at the Scot’s disposal.
It’s a move which has been welcomed by County fans, who have expressed their satisfaction on the popular online forum ‘over the bridge‘.
User ‘Doninblue’ said: “Great to see Woods back. He’s got far more presence about him than some of the other midfielders we currently have. I’m glad JM has strengthened the midfield as it was the only area we were short on players with proven ability at this level. I’m now even more optimistic that we will do very well this season.”
Fellow forum member ‘JailendLoyal’ added: “Happy that Woods is back. We’ve missed his experience, creativity and leadership in centre midfield. 5 centre midfielders is probably one too many, it’ll be interesting to see if one leaves. Murdoch is the obvious candidate.”
Daniel Bachmann cut short his loan-deal at Victoria Park to return to Stoke earlier this week, forcing McIntyre to move fast for a replacement back-up goalkeeper.
That void has been quickly filled by Leyton Orient’s Gary Woods, who has arrived on loan until January.
The 24-year-old comes with a handy bit of experience, having spent part of his youth career at Manchester United, before 82 appearances at Doncaster Rovers prior to 23 outings at Orient last term.
The arrival of Martin Woods and his namesake Gary could provide just that extra bit of cover and depth as County look to build a squad that can reach those European spots.
