County point feels like a loss but shows club’s potential

Having never finished higher than fifth in the Ladbrokes Premiership, it is a sign of Ross County’s growth and stature that they are disappointed not to be higher than their current fourth place.
The Staggies claimed a 1-1 draw at Motherwell on Saturday, but having dominated the game for the majority, conceded an 89th minute equaliser to the Steelmen.
Well’s Louis Moult grabbed his fourth goal in four games to deny County keeper Scott Fox a clean sheet.
Fox told the Daily Record: “I’m gutted they scored so late. I thought we would hold out so it feels like a defeat right now. It’s certainly two points dropped.
“This has happened already. We played St Johnstone away and were the better team but ended up drawing and you leave feeling devastated because you haven’t won the game.”
Those four points dropped at Motherwell and St Johnstone would have put County third right now, level with Hearts.
Having finished a club-best fifth in 2013, it’s a real sign of the strides being made at Victoria Park that the club are disappointed with their points total following their trip to Fir Park.
“In a sense, it shows you how far Ross County have come that we’re feeling as disappointed as we are after a result like this.” Fox added.
County have now claimed seven points from their last nine games and Fox, who joined the club from Partick in the summer, is confident of that run continuing.
“We have a good squad, with two players for every position.
“It’s a much stronger squad than we had at my old club Partick Thistle and everyone knows if they don’t perform they’ll be out.”
Only Celtic and Hearts have beaten the Staggies this term, and with home games against Partick and Inverness in the coming weeks, are well poised to maintain their spot in the top half of the Ladbrokes Premiership.
