Bayern Munich win the Champions League before kicking a ball

In the 12 years since Uefa abolished the second group phase of the Champions League there have been some interesting trends thrown up by the winners of European football’s most prestigious competition.

Ladbrokes News have delved deep into that data to find out exactly what the 2015/16 entrants need to do in order to get their mitts on the trophy this term, with Bayern Munich getting the early nod.

In the below graphic “The Science Behind Winning The Champions League” it is revealed that in being drawn in Group F this season, having a Spanish coach at their helm and facing Greek opposition in the first phase, the Bavarians have stolen a march on their rivals.

Ladbrokes make the Bundesliga giants 9/2 to lift the trophy, behind 3/1 favourites Barcelona, which should prompt those with a strong belief in fate to part with an investment in Pep Guardiola’s side.

Of course, it may be that the Allianz Arena outfit don’t tick enough boxes to warrant winning the Champions League this season, with the average number of group points, clean sheets, and top-scorer goals previous winners have managed all factored in.

But at this early stage, it is the Germans that hold the aces.
