West Ham waiting for Man Utd to play ball over Mexico striker

With striker Enner Valencia set to miss a chunk of action at the beginning of the new Premier League season, bringing in cover for the Ecuadorian has become a priority for West Ham.

Many names have been linked to Slaven Bilic’s new Irons project this summer and the latest of which is sure to excite fans of the club.

Manchester United striker Javier Hernandez is actively seeking a move away from Old Trafford, where the Mexican has slid out of the reckoning under Louis van Gaal.

Having been frustrated by another season of substitute appearances, this time on loan at Real Madrid in 2014/15, Hernandez has understandably told his agent that regular first-team football is paramount to his next move.

West Ham could well grant Chicharito his wish it would seem, especially with Valencia sidelined for up to 10 weeks, though there is one major hang up to a potential move, the asking price.

According to the Daily Star, Hernandez is incensed by United’s £12m valuation which he believes is repelling buyers.

The same newspaper report that the one-time United super sub thinks a fee of around half that would be more appropriate and the Hammers are sure to agree.

Having acquired the likes of Marseille playmaker Dimitri Payet and Juventus defender Angelo Ogbonna for a combined sum of around £18m, contributing to a net transfer outlay touching the £25m mark, some constraints on spending are likely.

Still only 27, the player who notched double figure Premier League tallies in his first three seasons at United, despite not starting regularly, still has a huge amount to offer.

West Ham may have a fight on their hands from Tottenham for Hernandez, though, with the Lilywhites looking to shake up their own strikeforce ahead of the new campaign.
