The Weekly Acca: Man United share top billing with Swindon

Manchester United, Middlesbrough, Swindon, Oxford and Deportivo La Coruna make up this weekend’s 34/1 five-fold and here’s why:

Man United to beat Newcastle

This might defy one of the golden rules of accas – never include an early game – but it’s too tempting to just pass up.

Newcastle have lost 25 times to United in the Premier League, more than any other top flight side, and have been beaten in each of their last seven games on the road.

The Red Devils started to sparkle against Club Brugge in midweek and they have to be backed to make it three wins from three in the league.

Middlesbrough to beat Bristol City

Are we playing it safe? Bristol City may have dramatically snatched a first point of the season against Leeds in midweek but they still look undercooked and won’t be relishing the long trip to Teesside.

Boro are protecting a nine game unbeaten home run in the Championship, a sequence that’s yielded eight victories.

And it would be some upset if Steve Cotterill’s side get anything from this encounter.

Swindon to beat Southend

Given their slow start to the season in front of goal you do wonder why Southend decided to let Barry Corr move to Cambridge.

That aside, the Shrimpers have only scored twice in their four league and cup matches this term while visitors Swindon have been pretty potent, if a little shaky at the back.

The Wiltshire club have netted eight times in League One and should have enough firepower to defeat their hosts.

Oxford to beat Mansfield

Neither Leyton Orient and Wycombe offer any great value so we’ve switched our attention to Oxford instead.

The U’s boast a decent record on their travels, having gone unbeaten in their previous 11 games away from the Kassam.

Meanwhile, their hosts only have just one win from their last six League Two matches and continue to look vulnerable.

Deportivo to beat Real Sociedad

La Liga is back! And we’re hoping this week’s continental selection sees Deportivo enjoy a Spanish stroll when they take on Sociedad.

On the face of it this could be considered a pretty daring selection given their respective league finishes last season.

But David Moyes’ visitors aren’t great on the road – they’ve suffered three defeats in their last five away games – and they could come unstuck in this opener.
