Upwardly mobile Ross County set sights on stuttering St. Johnstone

Jim McIntrye’s Ross County side took eight games to secure their first win last term but the Staggies have already erased that painful memory with victory over Hamilton on Saturday.

And when they head to McDiarmid Park to take on stuttering St. Johnstone in midweek the Highland outfit will be eager to add to their early points haul.

Ahead of County’s recent 2-0 success, boss McIntyre spoke of the importance of a fast start to their 2015-16 Ladbrokes Premiership campaign.

He told the Ross-Shire Journal: “We definitely want to put points on the board quickly. The sooner you get those points on board, the better for everybody.”

Those words were heeded with the hosts recovering well from their opening day defeat to champions Celtic and their immediate challenge is to improve upon recent showings in Perthshire.

County have been on the wrong end of a 2-1 scoreline on their two previous visits to St. Johnstone, once in the Premiership and then again in the Scottish Cup just a week later last November.

But with their hosts only picking up a point from their opening two games could a reversal in fortunes be on the cards?

Prior to their defeat at Parkhead the Dingwall outfit had gone six games unbeaten on their travels and they’re priced up at 13/5 to grab another precious three points.

And their two-goal hero against the Accies, Craig Curran, believes there’s still room for further improvement.

He told the Aberdeen Press and Journal: “We are certainly still gelling. There’s more to come than we showed against Hamilton. If we are getting results when we aren’t at our top level, that’s a good sign.”

Curran is a 15/2 shot to net the opener with the title sponsors while it’s a whopping 80/1 for Curran to score first and the visitors to win 2-0.
