How Twitter reacted to Jason Day’s PGA Championship win
Published:Tears flowed as Jason Day broke his duck in major tournaments, holding off a challenge from Jordan Spieth to take the PGA Championship at Whistling Straits by three shots.
Having finished in the top five six times in the past without ever winning, the emotional release the Australian experienced after sealing victory in Wisconsin was clear for all to see and sent Twitter into a cascade of congratulations.
Here’s the best of the reaction:
Tiger Woods, whose lowest total score at the tournament Day broke with his 20-under-par score, led the 140-character applause:
Game over, very happy for Jason. Great dude and well deserved. Hats off to Jordan, incredible season. Calling it early.

Not long after, Rory McIlroy chimed in as well, tipping his hat to both Day and Spieth, who dethroned the Northern Irishman at the top of the world rankings:
2 inevitable things happened today, @JDayGolf winning a major and @JordanSpieth getting to 1 in the world! Congrats guys!! Inspiring stuff!
