Tottenham flop’s exit to ramp up intensity of Berahino chase

Tottenham have finally decided to take a hit on striker Roberto Soldado, who joins Villarreal for a fee of around £10m, potentially paving the way for another centre-forward to replace him in north London.
Soldado promised far more than he actually delivered at White Hart Lane, when joining the club for a reported £26m from Valencia as part of the now infamous Gareth Bale-money recruitment drive.
The Lilywhites have acted quickly to bolster their attacking options with the arrival of versatile forward Clinton Njie from Lyon, but having lost an out-and-out striker the Daily Mail suggests manager Mauricio Pochettino still has designs on another.
The same publication also claim the transfer fee recouped for Soldado will now be put towards a concerted effort to land West Brom star Saido Berahino.
It’s certainly not the first time Berahino’s name has been linked to with a move to the Lane, but up until now there have been no official bids launched.
In light of Soldado’s exit, though, several media outlets are reporting that is about to change with £15m rumoured to be ready.
It remains to be seen whether West Brom, who’ve continually insisted their player is not for sale, would be willing to do business at this price, especially in light of boss Tony Pulis’ recent comments.
Pulis said: “If the money’s not right he won’t go, but if somebody came in and blew you out of the water then the club would think about it.
Spurs next go into action at home to Stoke, where Pochettino’s men are 7/10 favourites to bounce back from defeat at Old Trafford with a first win of the season.
