Spurs nick Mix and Match XI with Everton by one player

Published:

Tottenham welcome Everton to White Hart Lane for Saturday’s evening kick-off still awaiting their first win of the campaign and could well satisfy the craving if Ladbrokes News’ mix and match XI is an accurate guide.

It won’t be a mauling in north London though, with the combined sides seeing the Lilywhites sneak the advantage by one man.

Either way, the bookmaker offers Mauricio Pochettino’s men at 9/10 to win, with a draw priced at 5/2 and the Toffees rated at 3/1.

Here’s who made the final cut:

Hugo Lloris’ all-round presence in between the sticks trumps Tim Howard, who was uncharacteristically error prone last season.

In the back line Everton hold a strong presence. Leighton Baines and Seamus Coleman have a strong argument to be the best full-back pairing in the Premier League, yet alone compared to the positionally-naive Kyle Walker and Danny Rose.

Meanwhile John Stones earns a place while there’s still time to call him a Toffee, alongside recently acquired Lilywhite Toby Alderweireld.

The race to fill the two central midfield positions in our 4-2-3-1 formation was quite open, but impressive passing-focussed pair James McCarthy and Nabil Bentaleb win over the likes of Gareth Barry, Ryan Mason and Tom Cleverley.

The attacking third of the pitch is where Spurs shine through, filling three of the four spots available.

Christian Eriksen beats out Kevin Mirallas’ inconsistencies to claim the left-wing spot, while Nacer Chadli’s goal production ensures Aaron Lennon misses out on the side despite playing for both clubs in the past 12 months.

Ross Barkley, who has started the new season in fine fettle, gets the number 10 role, with Harry Kane besting Romelu Lukaku for the striker’s role thanks to his superior goal tally last term.
