Rampant Rangers have unearthed a gem in Tavernier

The Ladbrokes Championship season is only two games old but already Mark Warburton’s Rangers side are sending out a clear message to any potential rivals.

Much has been made of the quickfire change in attitude brought about by the former Brentford boss and the Gers’ 5-1 thrashing of Alloa Athletic only further served to fuel the notion that the Ibrox club could walk the division this term as they soared to the top of the table on goal difference.

Marauding right-back James Tavernier has been a revelation since signing from Wigan Athletic. His goal set the visitors on their way to a resounding victory at the Indodrill Stadium as he netted with a thunderous strike after just four minutes.

Michael Chopra’s eye-catching volley briefly restored parity but goals from Martyn Waghorn, Jason Holt and a brace from Kenny Miller meant the result was never in doubt.

Elsewhere, both Queen of the South and Dumbarton maintained their own 100 per cent records. The former bagged all three points courtesy of Lewis Kidd’s 65th minute free-kick away at lowly Livingston.

Meanwhile, the Sons followed-up victory over Hibernian by condemning relegated St. Mirren to a second successive defeat.

Garry Fleming’s late penalty handed the visitors a 2-1 victory at St. Mirren Park as well as rubbing salt into the wounds of former boss Ian Murray.

The remaining two games in the second tier yielded 1-0 successes for Falkirk and Hibernian respectively.

Peter Houston’s Bairns will have to get used to life without Swansea-bound striker Botti Biabi but they still had just enough to overcome Raith Rovers and secure their first league victory of the season thanks to Mark Kerr’s late strike against their 10-man opponents.

There will have been plenty of sighs of relief at Easter Road too with Hibs narrowly overcoming Greenock Morton.

The Edinburgh club started off life without Scott Allan with a win after Jason Cummings turned in a cross from David Gray just before the hour mark to separate the two sides.
