Raith Rovers hoping to snap up striker trialled by Caley Thistle

Having been ejected from the Petrofac Training Cup by Ladbrokes Scottish League One side Stenhousemuir in midweek, Raith Rovers could be in for a lift by the time the club return to Championship action against Alloa.

Rovers, as the Daily Record have flagged up, look all set to sign Serbian striker Marko Vukanovic who had spent a period on trial at Inverness CT last season.

Although the attacker failed to break into first-team plans at the high-flying Premiership outfit, Raith boss Ray McKinnon appears ready to throw the dice on the 20-year-old.

While Vukanovic was unexposed to SPFL audiences last season, his experience at the Caledonian Stadium can only help him bed in at Stark’s Park, having tasted a flavour of Scottish football.

Having moved around a bit early in his career it’s difficult for Rovers fans to know exactly what to expect from the former Swiss U17, who has dual nationality, though a promising spell at Spanish side Sabadell yielded seven goals in the same amount of appearances.

Given the devastating blow suffered so early in the season by the news of Lewis Vaughan’s cruciate knee ligament injury, forward reinforcements are certainly required.

Precocious teenage talent Vaughan had already marked his first two appearances of the season with goals, before injury struck in the Ladbrokes Scottish League Cup at home to Albion.

Rovers will be hoping a return to winning ways arrives when they welcome Alloa to Stark’s next, where the Kirkcaldy club are 20/21 favourites to take the points.

It remains to be seen whether Vukanovic will be part of the matchday squad.
