Proof that West Brom ace is best option in Spurs’ striker hunt

The dire state of Tottenham’s striking options was clear for all to see when, for the first game of the season against Manchester United, there wasn’t a single front man named on the substitutes bench.
With Harry Kane taking over Emmanuel Adebayor’s number 10 squad number for 2015/16, Lilywhites fans are left in little doubt who their main hope in front of goal will be this season. However, the support act behind the Englishman is worryingly thin.
The Togolese striker hasn’t even been handed a replacement number for the back of his jersey, so is unlikely to be seen in Tottenham white again, while Roberto Soldado is up for sale despite Mauricio Pochettino insisting the Spaniard remains in his plans.
Unsurprisingly then, Spurs find themselves linked with a host of new goal getters as the clock on the transfer window winds down, with as many as four new faces linked with switches to north London in today’s press.
That quartet are Manchester United’s Javier Hernandez, West Brom’s Saido Berahino and youngsters Clinton N’Jie from Lyon and 18-year-old Breel Embolo of FC Basel.
Curious as to which of the four would arrive at White Hart Lane with the best recent record, Ladbrokes News compared their league figures from last season, with the Baggies’ Burundi-born livewire the undoubted victor.
Although he falls well short in terms of assists compared to Spurs’ other rumoured targets, the England U21 international looks to be the best option for Pochettino, not least because of his recent numbers.
Fitting the age bracket that the Argentine prefers to work with, as well as rapidly gaining top-flight experience, Berahino should be the first-choice option as Spurs look to bolster their attack.
