Poll: Is Manchester United target Neymar really worth £140m?

Manchester United fans, frustrated with Wayne Rooney’s lack of goals of late, have been given something to ponder in the transfer rumour world today with talk of the Red Devils bidding £140m for Barcelona star Neymar.
The Brazilian has a €190m buy-out clause in his contract and once taxes and wages are taken in to consideration the whole thing could cost the Old Trafford club as much as £240m – and according to reports United are happy to pay!
When it comes to terrace talk and the argument surrounding whether or not a player justifies their price tag though, taxes and wages rarely come into consideration, so for all intents and purposes the Selecao ace would be charged with justifying a fee of £140m.
But is he worth that?
Obviously in real terms no man is “worth” £140m, not a footballer anyway, but in today’s market, where £49m gets you an as yet un-trophied English winger, £44.3m gets you an Argentine flop and £8m gets you an untested left back, can such a high fee for Neymar prove value for money?
Well, if it’s goals the Samba man is to be judged on then the answer could be yes. A prolific scorer in his native Brazil, Neymar has managed to smash 54 goals in just 92 appearances at the Nou Camp, all while operating in the shadows of Lionel Messi and of late Luis Suarez.
His 10 goals in 12 Champions League appearances show he can handle the pressure of big games too.
But, at the opposite end of the scale, £15m could get you Charlie Austin and if he can get 18 Premier League goals at relegated QPR, what could he achieve at Old Trafford?
There is little doubt that Neymar would be welcomed in the north-west by the United faithful – after all it’s not their money the club is spending – but today we are asking if Neymar is really worth the £140m fee United are said to be willing to pay?
