Poll: Where should Kevin Nolan go following West Ham exit?

Published:

Kevin Nolan is on the lookout for a new club after leaving West Ham by mutual consent.

The 33-year-old midfielder first joined the Upton Park ranks in 2011 and led the Irons back the Premier League via a Wembley play-off final.

After 154 games as captain and 31 goals the player and the club have decided that his future lies elsewhere and a return to Bolton, where he made his name in the early 2000s, appears most likely.

Fellow former employers Newcastle are also in the running, but where do you think Nolan will be plying his trade this season?

Take a look at the most likely candidates – as far as the betting is concerned – and let us know your thoughts by using the poll below.

Bolton @ 3/1

Having enjoyed eight Premier League seasons with the Trotters Nolan would like nothing more than to return his former side to their top flight glory.

A poor start to the season – with no wins from four games – means a call from Neil Lennon could soon come.

Blackburn @ 9/2

Like Bolton, former Premier League high fliers Blackburn have also had a slow start to the campaign, and could do with some much needed experience in their midfield.

Manager Gary Bowyer has been relying on Marcus Olsson and Ben Marshall in midfield but with Rovers winless in four league games and dumped out of the Capital One Cup by Shrewsbury, Nolan would presumably walk into the starting XI.

Derby @ 9/2

Completing the top three in the betting are another Championship club without a win this year.
The Rams may have started slowly but the chance to team up with former Real Madrid coach Paul Clement could help sway Nolan.

Norwich @ 6/1

Leading the Premier League pack vying for Nolan’s services are the Canaries and the opportunity to remain in the top flight will certainly be alluring for Nolan.

Having lost just one of their opening three games in the Premier League Norwich are clearly planning on doing more than making up the numbers and an experienced head like Nolan could prove invaluable in the fight for survival.

Newcastle @ 12/1

The Magpies are not short of midfield options so a return to St James’ Park seems an unlikely option.

However, if Steve McClaren is looking for a mentor to the likes of Georginio Wijnaldum, Jack Colback and Rolando Aarons then Nolan would prove an inexpensive option.
