Partick backed to nick it in battle of the Thistles on Wednesday

Published:

With three sides boasting unbeaten records in the Ladbrokes Premiership, could we be set for a more competitive season that we perhaps expected.

Two of those three are in action on Wednesday night, and while Celtic get the adulation of the TV cameras for their fixture against Kilmarnock, Hearts look to continue their return to the top flight in style against Motherwell.

Elsewhere we have the battle of Thistles as Inverness and Partick clash at the Caledonian Stadium.

Here’s how we see two of those fixtures going…

Hearts v Motherwell

Goals look to be on the menu as the Jambos host the Steelmen at Tynecastle.

Hearts have made an impressive return to the top-flight with a 100 per cent record, seeing them sitting pretty, joint top of the division.

The Gorgie men could be the team to follow for entertaining football, with their two victories featuring ten goals and chances galore.

With their exciting looking attack and a porous defence, this could be another high scoring encounter. The 12/5 on offer for there being over 3.5 goals in the match should be advised.

Motherwell have enjoyed a topsy turvy start to league action, with an impressive opening day win at Inverness, followed up by late heartache in a 2-0 reverse at home to Dundee United.

This is a fixture that has been kind to the Fir Park side in recent times. Well have won all of the last four fixtures, and have only tasted defeat twice in the previous twelve.

With this record in mind the bet looks to be to side with the visitors to win, with both teams scoring at a tempting 7/1. If you are looking for an even bigger price the 33/1 available for a 3-2 victory for the away side in the correct score market could be of interest.

Best bet: Motherwell to win and both teams to score – 7/1

Inverness v Partick

This is a clash between two sides lacking in confidence, and has all the hallmarks of a nervy, low scoring encounter as the two Thistles meet at the Caledonian Stadium.

After the highs of Scottish Cup success and a third place finish last term, this could be a season of trouble for Inverness. The Highlanders have failed to fill the gaping holes left by the departures of star players Marley Watkins, Graeme Shinnie and Billy McKay from last season’s successful team.

It has been a sorry looking start to the season from Caley. They exited Europe with barely a whimper and only have one point and a single goal to their name from their opening two league fixtures.

The Jags find themselves in exactly the same predicament, claiming only the one draw and having failed to trouble the scorers in 180 minutes of play.

Given this lack of firepower, the no match goalscorer price of 15/2 looks to be good value.

The last time Partick made this long trip up north they returned home with the three points and a 4-0 victory.

It may be a stretch to see them scoring that many again, but if there is to be a winner the away side look the most likely to deliver.

Best bet: Partick Thistle – Draw no bet – 11/8
