Morton v St. Mirren: Goals at both ends when foes reunite

Published:

There is anything but love felt between Morton and Renfrewshire rivals St. Mirren, who, thanks to differing fortunes in their respective divisions last season now prepare to face off in the Ladbrokes Scottish Championship.

With the TV cameras poised to add extra spice to this Friday night renewal, SPFL fans tuning in to kick off the weekend should be in for a treat.

This geographical beef last got airtime almost four years ago to the day in the Scottish League Cup and the scoreline back then went 4-3 in the Paisley club’s favour up at Cappielow Park.

Neither side have managed a win from their first two matches in the second tier thus far, though the boys from Greenock have at least recorded a point, whereas the Saints have yet to register.

Nevertheless, it’s visiting St. Mirren who hold favouritism for the clash, priced at 21/20, the draw is a 5/2 shot with Ladbrokes and Morton are tantalising-priced as 12/5 chances.

Morton fans will need no reminding they last defeated the Saints the other side of the Millenium, though, when recording a memorable 5-1 victory at St.Mirren Park.

Given the underdogs won League One title last season, while St Mirren propped up the Premiership, it’s certainly a difficult one to call, making a fence-sitting punt on the draw quite appealing.

One bet that does look ripe as a turkey in late December however, is both teams scoring at 4/6.

Neither defence have covered themselves in glory at the start of the 2015/16 campaign, with only one clean sheet recorded in eight league and cup matches combined.

That solitary win to nil for Morton came against League Two Elgin as well.
