Middlesbrough claim landslide Euro poll victory!

Football fans from the north-east have been flocking to Ladbrokes News today with supporters from one club in particular flooding our latest poll. Take a bow, Middlesbrough.

The Teesiders have come out on top thanks to a huge flurry of votes for their heroes.

Ahead of Southampton’s crunch Europa League play-off first-leg against Midtjylland we asked which recent continental cup run involving an English team was the most memorable (UEFA Cup and Europa League that is).

And it was Boro’s efforts that earned the most plaudits with a whopping 94 per cent of votes cast for their 2005-2006 run to the UEFA Cup final.

Ah, yes. We all remember those balmy nights at the Riverside, Massimo Maccarone’s heroics and the rise of Steve McClaren.

They’re all distant memories now but obviously fondly remembered, more so than Fulham’s gallant attempts under another future England manager in Roy Hodgson back in 2009-10.

The Cottagers only scooped four per cent of the poll but they weren’t the biggest losers.

Liverpool, despite contesting a 5-4 thriller against Alaves, and Chelsea, who won the cup in 2013 with a last-gasp winner from Branislav Ivanovic, only registered one per cent each.
