Ladbrokes League 2: Put your faith in Berwick this weekend

Published:

Are Clyde the real deal this season? Have Berwick turned a corner? And will East Stirling continue their fine recent record against Elgin?

These are just some of the questions raised by this weekend’s Ladbrokes League 2 fixtures.

Here‘s our rundown of the action ahead of another intriguing set of encounters in Scotland’s fourth tier.

Annan Athletic v Stirling Albion

Games between these two sides have seen plenty of goalmouth action in recent years, as highlighted by Stirling’s 5-3 victory in the corresponding fixture back in 2014.

In fact, in three of Annan’s last five competitive fixtures there have been four or more goals while in the visitor’s case that stat extends to four of their previous five matches.

By that logic expect nothing less than another high-scoring affair.

Best Bet: 4+ goals @ 13/8

Clyde v Queen’s Park

It’s easy to fancy Barry Ferguson’s men to carry on the momentum gained by their opening day victory last Saturday.

The hosts were 2-0 victors over Queen’s Park when they met on the final day of the previous campaign and can punish them again given the fact that the Hampden outfit have only been victorious once in their last 10 away games in League 2.

There are unlikely to be fireworks though. In Clyde’s last eight league matches over 2.5 goals has only come in once and the same goes for the visitors.

Best Bet: Under 2.5 goals @ 10/11

East Fife v Berwick Rangers

Rangers are hoping for an upturn in fortunes this season and they made the perfect start when dispatching Montrose last week.

Blair Henderson was the two-goal hero for Colin Cameron’s side and he’ll be looking to do more damage at Bayview.

The away side have smashed in 13 goals in their last six games on the road so if you’re feeling adventurous…

Best Bet: Berwick to win by 2 goals @ 8/1

Elgin v East Stirling

East Stirling have a decent record against their Highland hosts, winning eight of their last 11 previous encounters.

That’s perhaps an odd quirk given The Shire’s rank form in recent times though and with Elgin impressively seeing off Arbroath 3-0 in their first league test of the season it’s hard to see past them.

The Black and Whites were two goals to the good by half-time last week and can assert their dominance early on here.

Best Bet: Elgin/Elgin @ 7/4

Montrose v Arbroath

Are Montrose in for another long, hard season? They were only narrowly defeated in their opener while, as previously mentioned, Arbroath were hammered in theirs.

It’s tough to call a winner here given the pair’s inconsistencies so it’s probably best to look elsewhere instead.

It might not be a sexy bet but both teams have scored in five of the last six meetings and that looks a safe way to spend your money.

Best Bet: Both teams to score @ 1/2
