Ladbrokes League 2: Expect a tight contest between Stirling and Clyde

Published:

Barry Ferguson’s Clyde are the pre-season fancies but they have a tough opening assignment at Stirling, while relegation favourites Montrose are set for a thriller at Berwick.

Arbroath v Elgin City

Arbroath are many people’s fancies to go up this season and they are 3/4 to grab an opening day win over Elgin. Simon Murray has returned to Dundee United but they have held on to Bobby Linn, who also hit double figures last year. City have won just once in nine visits to Gayfield Park.

Berwick v Montrose

Both of these sides have had unimpressive pre-season campaigns. Montrose haven’t changed much from the team who finished bottom last year. Goals have reigned in clashes between these two. There have been 20 strikes in the previous 5 meetings, so over 3.5 goals at 5/4 and over 4.5 at 3/1 looks enticing.

East Stirling v East Fife

The Shire were handed a 5-0 hammering in the League Cup, which will have done little for confidence. By contrast, their opponents here ousted Championship side Dumbarton and confidence will be high. East Fife made the play-off last season and will push for top spot, so at an almost evens 20/21 they have to be backed.

Queen’s Park v Annan Athletic

Any side with Peter Weatherson leading the line at this level is going to be a threat. He hit 22 last season as he topped the scoring charts. At least one side has failed to score in the preceding four match-ups and with Weatherson in their ranks an Annan win to nil is huge at 6/1

Stirling Albion v Clyde

Barry Ferguson’s Clyde team failed to deliver last season and they are under pressure to put that rght this term. They’ve been handed a tough start against main rival Stirling. Avoiding defeat will be the order of the day and a draw here will suffice for both teams at 5/2.
