Ladbrokes League 2: Annan tipped to derail Montrose

Published:

Six sides sit on six points following the first three fixtures in Ladbrokes League 2 this season but which of the pacesetters will pull clear from the chasing pack this weekend?

Stirling are likely to find it tough going up north at Elgin while surprise package Berwick may have more enjoy against struggling Arbroath.

Here’s our preview of the action…

Annan v Montrose

The visiting Montrose side find themselves in the unusual position of being joint top of the table. The perennial strugglers have won their last two matches, both at home and in comfortable fashion to nil.

This long away trip south might prove too much for them though, with the Black and Golds having an impressive record in front of their loyal following. Annan have come out victorious four of the last five times these sides have squared off at fortress Galabank.

Best Bet – Annan/Annan HT-FT – 17/10

Berwick v Arbroath

Berwick host early season basement boys Arbroath, who are still searching for their first point. It has been a topsy turvy start to the season for the Borderers, with three wins and three defeats in all competitions.

Colin Cameron’s men have won both their home matches at Shielfield and will be confident of a third given the opposition. The visiting Red Lichties have lost five in a row and have found the net only once in three league matches.

Best Bet – Berwick to win to nil – 5/2

Clyde v East Stirling

The Bully Wee have endured a disappointing start to the season, with just one win from three and the pressure is building on boss Barry Ferguson.

The visitors East Stirling may have a winning record but their only away match ended in a 4-0 defeat against Elgin.

This fixture is always tightly contested, with very little between the teams. It is likely to be a low scoring affair, with an average of well under two goals in the last five meetings. The pair have only managed three goals between them this season thus far, and all things point to a slow day for both keepers here.

Best Bet – Under 2.5 Goals – 13/10

Elgin v Stirling

Stirling make the trip north to face league leaders Elgin. The hosts from the Highlands have found goals easy to come by in recent weeks.

The men from Borough Briggs followed up a 4-0 victory over East Stirling, with a 2-0 away win over Championship side Alloa in the cup midweek.  Albion lost 3-1 at home to Berwick last time out and only have a single point and two goals to their name to date.

Best Bet – Elgin to win – 21/20

Queens’ Park v East Fife

These two sides have made promising starts to the season, both sitting joint top and they will be looking to maintain their lofty positions in the table as they clash at Hampden.

The Spiders are on a three game winning run, including two league victories on the road.

The Fifers have won their last two league matches by an aggregate score of 7-1 and were mighty impressive when taking Premiership Motherwell to extra-time in midweek.

Those midweek excursions may have taken a toll on the visitors, and it’s a fixture that Queens usually relish – they have won their last three in-a-row at home against today’s opposition.

Best Bet – Queens’ Park to win 3-2– 18/1
