Ladbrokes League 1: Pars to continue their scoring streak

Published:

Dunfermline’s loss to Peterhead last weekend really threw a twist in the Ladbrokes League 1 works, and heading into the weekend Forfar top the standings with the sole remaining perfect record.

Here’s your weekly preview…

Aidrieonians v Peterhead

Airdrieonians picked up their first points last weekend with a 2-1 win at Brechin, but if they don’t keep out Peterhead’s Rory McAllister, they’ll be remaining on three points for a while yet.

McAllister has scored in each of his last four games in all competitions, including a stunning five-goal haul against Falkirk in the Challenge Cup in midweek.

The 28-year-old also bagged the opener in the Blue Toon’s 2-1 win over Dunfermline on Saturday, taking his total to 10 for the season.

Airdrie have found themselves behind at half-time in two of their three league games this season and their slow starts could play into McAllister and Peterhead’s hands.

Best Bet: Peterhead Half-time/Full-time @ 7/2

Albion Rovers v Brechin City

Albion play host to the only side in the division yet to pick up a point.

Rovers themselves have just one win to show for their efforts this term, an opening day 3-0 success over Ayr.

They’ve since lost to Forfar and Cowdenbeath, and now lie seventh in the table.

Brechin only lost seven league games throughout the whole of last season, but they’re nearly halfway to that number already.

However, Darren Dods’ men can take comfort in Albion’s failure to score in three of their last four games.

Best Bet: Total Goals – Under 2.5 @ 10/11

Ayr United v Forfar Athletic

Table-topping Forfar head to Ayr having pushed Premiership Hearts to extra-time in the Challenge Cup.

They’ll be keen to replicate those heroics at Somerset Park, despite Ayr looking for a third consecutive league victory.

It hasn’t been a happy hunting ground for Dick Campbell’s men, who failed to score when losing to Ayr in both visits last term.

The Sky Blues look a much stronger proposition this season however, and are in fine league form after scoring eight goals in their last two matches.

Best Bet: Forfar -1 @ 9/2

Dunfermline v Stranraer

Dunfermline came unstuck last weekend at Peterhead, but bounced back in midweek to dump Premiership Dundee out of the Challenge Cup.

The Pars have netted a staggering 29 goals in all competitions this season, and host a Stranraer outfit yet to keep a clean sheet in League One.

The Blues lost 1-0 on their most recent visit to East End Park in April.

Last season’s runners-up could be in trouble this time however if they can’t contain Dunfermline’s in-form trio of Faissal El Bakhtaoui, Michael Moffat and Joe Cardle.

Best Bet: Dunfermline -2 @ 15/4

Stenhousemuir v Cowdenbeath

A 1-0 win at home to Albion last weekend got beleaguered Cowdenbeath’s season up and running.

The Miners have suffered two heavy losses to league rivals Dumferline, conceding 12 goals in the process, while a home loss to Stranraer was a missed opportunity.

They head to a Stenhousmuir side despatched 4-1 by Forfar last time out.

Stenny matches have been entertaining of late, with both teams finding the net in each of the last nine League games involving the Warriors.

Best Bet: Both teams to score @ 8/15
