Another Hearts goal-fest and more Terror frustrations predicted
The Ladbrokes Scottish Premiership kicked off with a bang last week, and after a pulsating opening weekend, we are raring to go again with week two.
There are four games to enjoy on Saturday, with a head-to-head of the only winners from last week to be in action the pick of the bunch.
We’ve taken a look over the quartet of mouth-watering ties to bring you our best bets around the grounds.
Dundee v Hearts
On one hand with none of the five meetings since 2012 between these two sides seeing both teams find the net, a drab one sided affair could be predicted.
On the other, Dundee won 4-0 last week, while Hearts recorded a 4-3 victory over St Johnstone.
Much has been made of the Jambos’ instant impact back in the big time, but there will be questions still to be answered, after three sloppy goals conceded against the Saints.
There is sure to be goals in this one, with Greg Stewart looking set for a big season for the Dees, and with the former Cowdenbeath man proving an able strike-partner to Rory Loy, the hosts may just be a spot of value at 17/10.
Best Bet: Over 2.5 goals – Evens
Motherwell v Dundee United
The injury to Mario Bilate that looks set to keep him out of this match-up is yet another hindrance to the goal-shy Terrors.
United have found the net just twice in their last seven matches, including pre-season, and are crying out for a bit of creativity.
Their late defeat to Aberdeen was no embarrassment, but whether they are quite there as a unit capable of competing this season remains to be seen.
Meanwhile, next opponents ‘Well have only conceded two in their last six competitive fixtures at Fir Park.
Don’t expect them to dominate though, they only scored more than once eight times in the league last term.
Best Bet: Motherwell to win 1-0 – 15/2
Ross County v Hamilton
Despite having a man advantage for over an hour against Partick Thistle, Hamilton couldn’t get the breakthrough they needed last week.
They will need to show more endeavour and threat if they are to get their first win on the board against Ross County.
The Staggies played better than the result suggests when going down 2-0 to champions Celtic in the trickiest of season openers.
Back at Dingwall they will be a tough nut to crack, winning four of their last six competitive games at home.
Victory here could see them start on the road to recording Premiership safety once again.
Best Bet: Ross County to win – 6/5
St Johnstone v Inverness Caledonian Thistle
Certain members of the Caley Thistle fanbase were slamming their side’s performance against Motherwell last time out.
A broken leg to defender Gary Warren won’t help their cause as they continue to suffer from a multitude of injury problems.
They face a Saints side that showed they are more than capable going forward, but also have a penchant for sloppy defensive mistakes against Hearts last week.
Tidy up at the back and they can rectify that defeat with three points, be it without conceding at all, or having to overcome an improved Inverness outfit.
It would be a big ask for a home thumping, with just four of Caley’s last 19 defeats coming by more than the solitary goal.
Best Bet: St Johnstone to win by one goal – 3/1
