Fantasy Football: Leader stands firm as Generous John climbs

A total of 658 teams committed to battle it out for a fantastic £100 Free Bet in the Ladbrokes Life Fantasy Football League, but the vast majority will have to step it up if they are to catch our early leader.

Robert Kelly’s ‘Can’t stop scoring’ retained their place top of the pile after the second game week, with Liverpool goalscorer Christian Benteke bringing 18 points as captain, supported by 11 from Everton’s Ross Barkley.

The Toffees man was the only member of Kelly’s side that featured in this week’s dream team.

Once again there was a player from the blue half of Merseyside leading the line, but this time it was Romelu Lukaku.

Supported by two of his team-mates it was a good week for fans of Roberto Martinez’s men.

The Norwich duo of Nathan Redmond and Wes Hoolahan both reached double figures in their side’s rout of Sunderland, while there was a return to the squad for Vincent Kompany and Leicester’s man of the moment Ryad Mahrez.

Three of the ‘Dream Team’ featured in the flyer in the Ladbrokes Life League, Georgi Bazlyankov’s FC Hollywood.

Racking up 87 points with five goals, three assists and four clean sheets in his side, a move up to fourth in the table could be a sign of things to come.

As far as our five crusaders go it was much the same, with the Professor continuing to struggle in 436th, and Generous John leading the way.

John made moves only the shrewdest of manager would have considered, bringing Ryad Mahrez off the bench, swapping the suspended Thibaut Courtois for Joe Hart between the sticks, and retaining the faith with Arsenal goalscorer Olivier Giroud as captain.

Those moves brought the generous one up to 12th in the table, a whopping 615 places above his chum The Believer.

Leaving Nacer Chadli (8 points) and Phil Jagielka (6 points) on the bench won’t do much for his climb up the table, but with 36 weeks to go if anyone retains the faith it’s The Believer.
