Familiar foe must be the best man to bolster West Ham’s attack

If the London Evening Standard are to be believed then West Ham are running the rule over a dozen potential strikers to bring in before the transfer window closes, although there may not be room for all 12.
Strangely, the capital’s free daily rag does not feel the need to elaborate on 10 of these potential arrivals, instead refining their report to oft-linked duo Javier Hernandez and Emmanuel Adebayor.
In spite of their mutual woes at Manchester United and Tottenham respectively, both strikers at least have proven Premier League pedigree on their side.
Hammers’ hopes of landing Hernandez look to have been severely dented in the past 24 hours however, as United manager Louis van Gaal has reiterated his desires to reintegrate the Mexican forward at Old Trafford.
Meanwhile, it’s anyone’s guess what it would take to sign Adebayor, given the whimsical nature of the Togolese striker who has refused to leave White Hart Lane for Aston Villa.
It could be that the former Arsenal man prefers to stay in London, which may in turn prove pivotal if Slaven Bilic is serious about signing him.
Although unconfirmed on the Standard’s mysterious 12-deep longlist (which by default must also contain Englishman Saido Berahino and Charlie Austin) the name Alvaro Negredo must excite far more than any linked to the Boleyn Ground thus far.
Negredo made a beeline for the Hammers’ net during his prolific season at Manchester City, firing in five goals in three starts against the East Londoners en route to the a league and cup double in 2013/14.
The man they called ‘The Beast’ at the Etihad has since floundered somewhat at Valencia and apparently is now unfancied by Los Che manager Nuno Santo who may be looking to offload.
A possible loan move back to the Premier League has been earmarked and those West Ham fans tormented by Negredo previously would love to see him in claret and blue.
