Dumbarton to deny Falkirk table-topping chance
It’s been a promising start to the season for Falkirk and they host Dumbarton on Friday night knowing that a win would move them top of the Ladbrokes Championship.
It would only be by virtue of having played a game more than current leaders and title favourites Rangers – who meet Queen of the South on Sunday – but it would certainly emphasise just what a bright start has been made by the Bairns.
Peter Houston’s side find themselves unbeaten and third in the table. They’ve lost just one of their seven games in all competitions too, a 5-3 loss to Peterhead in the Challenge Cup.
Visitors Dumbarton, on the other hand, arrive at the Falkirk Stadium having lost their last two games in all competitions. Nevertheless they’ve won two of their opening trio in the league and sit fifth, a point behind their hosts.
Despite those recent defeats, Stevie Aitken’s Dumbarton head eastwards confident in the knowledge that they boast a fine recent record at Falkirk and it’s one they’ll wish to continue in front of the BBC Alba cameras.
The Sons have been defeated just once in their last six visits, claiming three wins and two draws in those trips.
The two sides shared the spoils in their quartet of meetings last season, claiming one win apiece and two draws – coming in both contests at Falkirk, and a repeat draw is 14/5.
In addition, both sides have found the net in the last five clashes at Falkirk Stadium, but with neither side particularly setting the scoresheets alight this term, we may be in for a repetition of last September’s 1-1, rather than January’s chaotic 3-3.
The sides have kept just one clean sheet between them in the league this season, and that points us towards a score draw at 13/2
