WATCH: Comedian gatecrashes FIFA, showers Blatter in cash

FIFA press conferences have certainly been unmissable viewing in recent times and today’s has only enhanced that reputation following Simon Brodkin’s surprise appearance. 

Having broken through security in Zurich the British comedian made his way to FIFA president Sepp Blatter and proceeded to shower him in American dollars saying: “This is for North Korea 2026, thank you very much.”

The shock appearance irked Blatter who was seen to be visibly shaken by events.

As a result, the conference was subsequently put on hold and the Internet was left to erupt…

Of course, this isn’t the first time that Brodkin has pulled off a daring publicity stunt having recently been seen crashing Kanye West’s set at Glastonbury as the character Lee Nelson.

However, the big news coming out of FIFA headquarters concerns the announcement of the election to appoint a new president of world football’s governing body following months of corruption allegations and the resignation of Blatter in June.

The date for the election has been announced as 26 February 2016.

Ladbrokes make Prince Ali bin al-Hussein the 5/4 favourite to replace Blatter with UEFA chief Michel Platini next best in the betting at 2/1.

It would appear that this particular market is a two-horse race with Sheik Ahmad Al-Sabah (7/1), Michael van Praag (8/1) and Luis Figo (10/1) judged to be the nearest challengers.

Meanwhle, American politician Mitt Romney is a surprise 33/1 outsider while you can get odds of 3/1 that Blatter is still FIFA president at the end of 2017.

Ben Stones of Ladbrokes said: “Four of the six football confederations are backing Michel Platini for FIFA’s top job, and according to the odds at least, only Prince Ali can stop him”
