Spurs preparing double swoop for Everton midfield duo

Spurs continue to be fixated with midfielders during transfer windows, as they look to supplement the exits of Paulinho, Etienne Capoue and potentially Benjamin Stambouli with one of Everton’s main men.

The Daily Mirror reckons Mauricio Pochettino will launch a bid in the region of £20m for James McCarthy, banking on his reported annoyance over a lack of new contract at Goodison Park to snare their man.

The 27-cap Irish international has been an impressive cog in the Toffees’ wheel since following Roberto Martinez from Wigan in 2013, attracting rumoured interest from supposed bigger clubs in each transfer window since.

It’s unlikely that Martinez will want to part ways with McCarthy, although Spurs will throw Aaron Lennon into the deal in an attempt to persuade the Spaniard to loosen his grip.

The Lilywhites’ interest in Everton players does not end there, with the same paper claiming that Kevin Mirallas will also be the subject of an official bid in coming days.

With just one year left on his Merseyside deal and a reported complete lack of interest in renewing those terms, Mirallas has been a long-time rumour-mill resident.

The Belgian, who would cost just £3.5m according to the Mirror, has scored 21 Premier League goals in 88 appearances for Everton since his 2012 arrival and would freshen up a stale Tottenham wide area.

Along with Lennon, who spent the second half of last season on loan at Goodison, Andros Townsend and Erik Lamela have all frustrated Pochettino and fans alike with their inconsistent performances.

A more regular source of goals than all of those three, Mirallas would add a cutting edge to the Argentine’s 13/2-rated chances of qualifying in the top four this term.

The Toffees find themselves priced at 20/1 in the same market.
