Spurs look ahead to Lloris exit by sounding out Sardinian stopper

A goalkeeping house of cards looks set to collapse any day now, with Real Madrid’s Iker Casillas seemingly ever closer to a move away from the Bernabeu and Manchester United’s David de Gea extremely likely to replace his Spanish compatriot as Los Blancos netminder.

When the inevitable happens, United will need a new head honcho between the sticks themselves, unless Louis van Gaal takes the uncharacteristic risk of naming former Barcelona stopper Victor Valdes as his top custodian going into the 2015/16 campaign.

Tottenham captain Hugo Lloris’ steadfast refusal to rule out a move to a Champions League club puts him bang in the frame to take over from De Gea at Old Trafford, although the Lilywhites will fight tooth and nail to keep the France number one in north London.

However, if De Gea manages to engineer a move back to his home city then the 13-time Premier League champions will feel well within their rights targeting Lloris, who seems about as dedicated to the Spurs cause as former teammates Gareth Bale and Luka Modric were.

According to talkSPORT, the White Hart Lane money men are tracking Paris Saint-Germain stopper Salvatore Sirigu in case the worst happens, following the Ligue 1 giants’ purchase of German goalie Kevin Trapp from Eintracht Frankfurt.

It’s not yet clear whether Sirigu is surplus to requirements at the Parc des Princes, but the same news outlet ‘reveal’ that ‘sources in France’ believe Roma have already offered £7.9m for the 14-cap Italy international, who left Palermo for Paris in 2011.

Big-spending La Liga outfit Valencia have also been credited with an interest in the 28-year-old, who is expected to take over from Juventus hero Gianluigi Buffon between the Azzurri sticks when the 37-year-old finally hangs up his gloves.
