Scouting the latest brick in Sherwood’s Aston Villa rebuild

Aston Villa have rung the bell on Ghana international Jordan Ayew’s move from Lorient with a big-budget film showing the 23-year-old shaking on a five-year deal with boss Tim Sherwood.
The son of three-time African Footballer of the Year Abedi Pele become the second Ayew brother to leave France for the Premier League this summer, after older sibling Andre’s switch to Swansea on a free transfer last month.
Jordan and Andre have played together on numerous occasions for their country and former club Marseille, where both were born, but the younger brother’s career appeared to take a significant step backwards in January 2014.
Despite playing a part in 22 of L’OM’s first 26 games of the 2013/14 campaign, starting nine times including in a 2-0 Champions League group stage loss away to Arsenal, Ayew minor left for a loan spell with Sochaux, where he bagged five goals in 17 Ligue 1 fixtures.
After featuring in all three of his country’s matches en route to Ghana’s group-stage exit at the last World Cup, Ayew made a permanent move 1000km across France to Lorient, where he contributed a fine haul of 12 Ligue 1 goals and five assists during his only campaign at Stade du Moustoir.
Considering Villa are thought to have parted with around £12m for the striker, Sherwood will be looking for something like the same output from his new signing.

In other Villa transfer news, assistant manager Ray Wilkins has revealed that the club are still hoping to do a deal for Tottenham striker Emmanuel Adebayor, with a big gap in the squad for a number nine now Christian Benteke has moved to Liverpool.
The Villans are also thought to be on the verge of landing Spanish full-back Jose Angel Crespo from Cordoba, while Rennes’ twice-capped Frenchman Paul-Georges Ntep is on Sherwood’s radar, according to the Mirror.
