Poll: Which arrival in Man Utd’s midfield will deliver the most?

Published:

Manchester United’s spending tally jumped up a notch or two on Monday, with the arrival of Bastian Schweinsteiger and Morgan Schneiderlin.

A combined fee of around £40m signals the intent Louis van Gaal is approaching this season with, as the Red Devils look to improve on their fourth place finish last season.

The club are 1/4 to secure another top four finish, with the ultimate aim undoubtedly a challenge for the Premier League title, for which they are 11/2 shots.

The acquisition of the two midfielders will undoubtedly  bolster their chances of netting some silverware in the coming years.

Both players will add significant bite to the centre of the park at Old Trafford, but with places at a premium they will need to hit the ground running at the club.

So today’s poll is simple, we are asking you which of United’s latest signings will have the biggest impact in 2015-16?

One would expect former Bayern Munich stalwart Schweinsteiger to come in as direct competition or a simple replacement for Michael Carrick.

His pin-point passing ability helped him on the way to eight assists for Der FCB in his 13th and final season at the Bavarian club.

But with a penchant for a long shot – he scored five times in the Bundesliga in 2014-15 – the 30-year-old German will add something extra to the Theatre of Dreams engine room.

Ex-Southampton man Schneiderlin, while also possessing an eye for a pass, is capable of adding more of a threat in the air that only Maroanne Fellaini can rival.

While Schweinsteiger’s World Cup winners’ medal and eight Bundesliga titles dwarf the honours achieved by Schneiderlin, a £10m gulf in their transfers fees weighted towards the latter shows the promise that he has shown.

At five years the German’s junior the former Strasbourg man could be seen as more of one for the future at Old Trafford.

However, while both he and the club will have one eye on the future, we are interested in the here and now, so get voting on who will deliver the most in the season ahead.
