Mad Men tipped to bow out in Emmy Awards glory

Mad Men may have already bid fans farewell from the small screen but the AMC show could be set to bow out in glory at the forthcoming Emmy Awards.

The show, which chronicles the career of advertising guru Don Draper, was brought to a close earlier this year and the second part of the seventh series was met with huge fanfare.

And it seems appreciation for the show is not the sole reserve of fans, with Ladbrokes pricing Mad Men as the 6/4 favourite to take home the Outstanding Drama Series award at this year’s ceremony.

The show, which has turned the likes of John Hamm, January Jones and Christina Hendricks into household names, is no stranger to Emmy’s success, having taken this prize in 2008, 2009, 2010, and 2011.

However, the series has some stellar company in the race for the 2015 trophy, with Game of Thrones and Netflix favourite House of Cards also in the running.

Game of Thrones, the ratings smash based on the writings of George R R Martin, can be backed at 7/4, but having never earned Emmy recognition in its run so far the HBO hit could be better of avoided.

House of Cards, an American reimagining of the British BBC Drama of the same name, has enjoyed three hugely-popular series on the online rental platform and with Kevin Spacey’s character, ruthless politician Frank Underwood, now one of the small screen’s most iconic the 6/1 odds could prove a shrewd pick.

Fellow Netflix offering Orange is the New Black is priced at 10/1 but after the third series was met with a lukewarm reception when compared to the first two seasons of the women’s prison dramedy it too might be one to swerve.

Better Call Saul, the third Netflix show on the list of nominees, could prove better value at longer odds of 12/1.

A prequel to the hugely-successful Breaking Bad, a winner of this award in 2013 and 2014, the Bob Odenkirk-led show, which tells the tale of lawyers decent into the murky underworld, looks the best value option away from the favourite.

Homeland, a winner in 2012, and Downton Abbey, a perennial runner-up in this category, can be backed at 16/1 and 20/1 respectively but with Mad Men seemingly in pole position it would be something of a shock to see either the Showtime and BBC shows honoured.
