Love Your Club: Marc McKenzie – Elgin City

Published:

He hasn’t been there long but Marc McKenzie has already started to settle in at Elgin City.

The striker tells Ladbrokes News about getting stick for being a Glaswegian and not training with his team-mates.

Why do you love Elgin City?

I have only just joined recently but it’s been good, the players and the gaffer have welcomed me in, as has everyone else around the club.

It’s harder as I don’t train with the lads, I am still training with Albion Rovers as with work commitments and so on it’s hard to get up to Inverness to train. I do as much as I can and the club seems great.

What’s the atmosphere like in the dressing room?

The games in pre-season have seen a good atmosphere between the boys and there’s been a lot of banter. The lads have been lagging me for being a Weegie.

There hasn’t really been any music so far, maybe I need to take control of it. The lads are so far behind the times up there that I think they’re still listening to the classics! I need to get a wee bit of George Bowie on for them.

There’s nothing better than a Saturday. Close season is a nightmare, going shopping with the Mrs.

Describe the fans and what they mean to the club

You can tell already there’s a good solid fanbase. I knew that from playing against them but being here you see it’s a good local club and everyone supports them.

Can you name a backroom hero at Elgin?

I’m still getting to know people but in the short period of time I’d say the physio and the old kitman Tony, they’ve both been there for years. All the boys have good banter with Tony and he likes a pint or two!

What’s the best thing about being a Elgin footballer?

As a boy you always want to be playing football and there’s nothing better than when you get up in the morning and you got to play football.
