Love Your Club: David Gray – Hibernian

David Gray has spent most of his career south of the border, graduating from the Manchester United academy, before moving his way around the Football League.
However, last year he returned to his native Edinburgh and Ladbrokes News caught up with him to ask him what he loves about Hibs.
Why do you love Hibernian?
I grew up in the city and I always watched them play when I was younger. They have great facilities and a great fanbase.
What’s the vibe like in the dressing room?
It’s very relaxed on a matchday. That’s something the manager likes to get across, he likes everyone to be relaxed and we know our jobs the day before.
Scott Allan likes to take control of the iPod in the dressing room, which I’m not a fan of to be honest. It’s quite a mix but it’s not for me. It seems to go down well tough.
It’s a great stadium, especially for the big games. The Edinburgh Derby was a big one last year and we had a couple of games against Rangers. It’s always really exciting and a great atmosphere.
Describe the fans and what they mean to the club
I only signed here last season and the season before they had to deal with getting relegated so credit to the fans for sticking with us last year. The turnaround from the start of last season to the end was demonstrated by the huge round of applause before the game had even ended. To get to that stage from where we were before was really pleasing and quite humbling really.
Can you name an Hibernian backroom hero?
Tam McCourt, the kitman, he’s been there for years and he’s one of the guys who gets battered every day in the dressing room, he loves the banter. He’s someone who loves the club, he’s the engine room of the football club.
What is the best thing about being a Hibernian footballer?
Growing up as a youngster I always dreamt of being a footballer. I’m very lucky to do something I really enjoy; people all over the world do jobs they don’t enjoy, so I’m lucky to do what I do.
