Love Your Club: Darren Barr – Dumbarton
Dumbarton captain Darren Barr may be new to the club but the 30-year-old defender is already settling in.
The former Falkirk, Hearts, Killie and Ross County man has been impressed with the set-up at the imaginatively-named Dumbarton Football Stadium and has already established who are the best DJs in the changing room.
Here he tells Ladbrokes News why he loves Dumbarton FC…
Why do you love Dumbarton?
It’s a good set up and we’ve got a good gaffer. I’ve only just joined but there are a few new players so it’s an exciting time to be here and I’m looking forward to the new season.
Describe the fans and what they mean to the club
The fans can be a massive influence. If the fans get behind you, you can really feel it and it definitely helps some of the boys out.
You can hear it when people say something and even if it’s something bad you can try to change it to a positive. Thankfully the fans have been quite positive towards me so far. You hear the bad stuff more than anything good or useful but it’s OK.
I think with social media fans can get closer to players now and find stuff out about the dressing room and stuff like that which is good. My banter’s terrible though so I steer clear of
Facebook and Twitter and all that.
What’s the vibe like in the dressing room?
We’ve got a good vibe around the changing room here. The dressing rooms are quite big so we have the music up quite loud. We’ve got a few lads into their tunes, Grant Gallagher and Darren Miller play a few good heavy tunes to be fair.
When it comes to the matches we get straight out of the tunnel and on to the pitch. There’s not more to it really, it’s a good set up and everything smooth before a game.
Can you name a Dumbarton Backroom Hero?
There are a few good people at the club that I’ve seen. I couldn’t give you any names yet as I’m still new at the club but there’s a lot of hard work going on behind the scenes.
What’s the best thing about being a Dumbarton footballer?
Simply doing something that you love and have dreamed of since being a wee boy.
