Love Your Club: Alim Ozturk – Hearts

Published:

New Hearts captain Alim Ozturk has expressed his pride in taking the armband from recently-departed Danny Wilson and knows the responsibility he has to the club’s loyal fans.

The former Trabzonspor man was blown away by the Jam Tarts’ fanbase when he joined the club and says it’s one of the things he likes most about life at Tynecastle.

Here he tells us why he loves Hearts …

Why do you love Hearts?

For me it’s the passion of the fans. From the first day I arrived in Scotland and my first game it’s clear how the fans support the team. To have 7,000 fans at Livingston away was amazing.

Describe the fans and what they mean to the club

I haven’t had too many dealings with the fans directly but the support the club gets is unbelievable.

What’s the vibe like in the dressing room?

We try to prepare as best we can. We have a young team and everybody is hungry so we all push each other and that gives you a great feeling when you finally walk out on the pitch.
Can you name a Hearts Backroom Hero?

I think the job the kitman does is very important and they don’t always get the recognition they deserve.

What’s the best thing about being a Hearts footballer?

When I was young I started to play and when you start with a ball at your feet at seven or eight it’s just a dream. For me it couldn’t be any ball it had to be a football. To do it as a professional now is the best thing.
