Liverpool XI predicted with club’s latest number 7 at its core

No team has been busier on the acquisition front than Liverpool this summer and in his first official interview as a Red, James Milner has given some fascinating insight into his reasons for making the switch.

Speaking to the club’s website Milner revealed that he had left Manchester City behind because Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers had assured the England midfielder he would be cast in a central role at Anfield.

Taking on the iconic number seven shirt in the process, Milner is clearly preparing to become an integral figure in what the 29-year-old now sees as his best position in the thick of the action.

The former Newcastle, Aston Villa and Leeds player, also told fans of the Merseyside outfit that he intended to channel his experience of winning titles at City into transforming Liverpool back into Premier League contenders in 2015/16.

With Liverpool slipping from second to sixth in the space of one season during 2014/15 that is a very tall order, rated as such by Ladbrokes at 28/1.

However, the top four is a far more realistic target for Milner and his collection of new teammates, if they can all gel, with the firm making that achievement a 2/1 chance.

As rumours persist linking Christian Benteke to a possible mega-money move from Aston Villa and Raheem Sterling with the Etihad-bound exit he craves, this really could be a very different looking Liverpool next term.

In true news.ladbrokes fashion, we’ve attempted to read Rodgers’ mind and put forth a possible starting XI for the opening game against Stoke on August 8th.

The Reds are a skinny-sounding 13/8 considering their Britannia Stadium shambles on the final day of last season, but in his central berth Milner will hope to orchestrate revenge.
