It’s official! Chris Brass’s effort voted best own goal of the lot

Published:

Chris Brass’s career in English football’s lower leagues may have not have yielded many titles, but here at Ladbrokes News we are awarding him with an accolade five years after his retirement.

The former Bury man’s attempt at a clearance that left him nursing a broken nose saw him claim our poll for the most impressive own goal in recent times.

Here is the “strike” in all its glory…

His effort ranked in with 30 per cent of the votes in what was a tight voting process that saw all five candidates in with a real chance.

Unfortunate England Lioness Laura Bassett looked to be in for a reprieve of sorts languishing in last place in our poll for much of the day.

That was until a late surge saw the Notts County Ladies defender booted up to a share of second place alongside Carl Jenkinson and Milan Gajic, the trio each receiving 20 per cent of the votes.

Languishing in fifth place with just a tenth of you voting it your favourite was Jamie Pollock.

Perhaps it was the shear brilliance of his finish as opposed to it being a freakish strike that saw it fail to strike a chord with our readers, who knows, but the final tally is all that matters.

So there you have, we know everyone loves an own goal (unless it’s against your team), but one thing is for sure, it will take a while to top the exploits seen at the Darlington Arena in April 2006.
