How Twitter reacted to Nigel Pearson’s sudden Leicester sacking

| 01.07.2015

Leicester City were bottom of the Premier League at Christmas. Five months later they were celebrating survival and an improbable 14th-place finish. Now they’re managerless.

Nigel Pearson was sacked by the Foxes board, who claimed the working relationship between the two parties was “no longer viable”. The dismissal of the 51-year-old’s son, who played a part in the recent sex tape scandal surrounding the club, is believed to be central to the deterioration.

After guiding Leicester to Premier League survival, along with winning both League One and the Championship during his two spells in charge, Pearson’s axing was met with dismay on Twitter.

Here’s a roundup of the reaction:

Former Leicester striker Gary Lineker led the outrage.

Others felt strongly enough to write their feelings down in more than 240 characters.

Naturally, some of Pearson’s off-field antics cropped up.

In fact, the ostrich thing was quite prominent.

Which is a perfect excuse to use this Tweet again.

Then there was the strangling episode.

And that time Pearson was sacked for a day.

Finally, it wouldn’t be a Twitter reaction if there wasn’t an unsuspecting user,
unfortunately named, wondering why his mentions have gone through the roof.
