Everton handed special price to topple Liverpool twice this term

The Merseyside derby used to be an amicable affair. In fact, it was so placid that it was once known as the Friendly Derby thanks to its rare crowd trouble.

Since the dawn of the Premier League era that tag couldn’t be further from the truth on the pitch, with the fixture containing more sending offs than any other in the English top flight.

While red cards are common in the game, so are Red wins. Liverpool have come out on top in 19 of the 46 Premier League encounters between the two neighbours, with Everton triumphing in nine and 18 draws.

Unsurprisingly then, it’s the Anfield club that have enjoyed “doing the double” over their great rivals more often. Indeed, the Reds own all of the doubles that have occurred in the fixture since the introduction of the Premier League, claiming all five of them since the turn of the millennium.

Everton’s last double over Liverpool came all the way back in the 1984/85 season and the club haven’t tasted the sweetness of success over the Anfield club in the most recent 10 outings against them.

None of that evidence to Liverpool’s dominance has stopped Ladbrokes from continuing their countdown to the new season, by pricing up the Toffees to complete their maiden top-flight double at 11/1.

Although it has been five years since the Goodison Park faithful have witnessed a win for their side, there will sizeable hope that Roberto Martinez’s men can get a leg up in this season’s rivalry, with an early meeting.

Brendan Rodgers has undergone another overhaul of his playing squad and the October 3rd trip to Goodison, for the eighth league game of the season, could see the Reds still striving to gel.

If however, Ladbrokes customers don’t fancy the 11/1 about the blue half of Merseyside reigning supreme this season, then they can take the same price on Everton finishing 11th in the league.
