England boss will be watching Liverpool like a hawk in 2015/16

Published:

Despite the acrimonious departure of Raheem Sterling this summer, Brendan Rodgers still has a squad so rich with potential England players that Roy Hodgson will probably become part of the furniture at Anfield in 2015/16.

Perhaps over any other Premier League dressing room in the country, Liverpool will have a particularly strong core of Englishmen to choose from among the foreign talent for the forthcoming campaign.

Although Sterling has hot-footed it to Manchester City to bolster the Etihad club’s depleted homegrown stocks, Rodgers has a roster teeming with players ready to answer the Three Lions roar.

Two of them just scored on the club’s pre-season tour of Australia in Adelaide. They are both new additions to Anfield in the shape of hugely experience England international James Milner and budding striker Danny Ings.

Another of Liverpool’s latest purchases, Nathaniel Clyne, broke into the England set-up last season after his performances on Southampton’s right flank proved too accomplished for Hodgson to ignore.

Meanwhile, highly-rated Londoner Joe Gomez has already impressed Rodgers so much on Liverpool’s tour following his move from Charlton, that the Northern Irishman has stated the teenage centre-half will be involved in the first-team rather than be sent on loan next term.

Other promising English talents on the books include Jordan Ibe, Jon Flanagan and Andre Wisdom, while senior stars Jordan Henderson, Daniel Sturridge and Adam Lallana all accompanied Milner to the World Cup last summer and played.

Here is a Liverpool team made up exclusively of potential England players and, fitness providing, it would probably be pretty competitive in the top flight.

Young academy goalkeeper Lawrence Vigouroux may be one not-so-familiar name, but Hodgson would be happy to see this team take the field at Anfield if the Three Lions boss were in attendance.
