Curse of Silverstone pole makes Rosberg the bet for British GP

Lewis Hamilton is the strong 2/5 favourite with Ladbrokes to win his third British Grand Prix after claiming pole for the 2015 edition.
The world champion will start Sunday’s race beside his Mercedes teammate Nico Rosberg, but as history shows, starting from first on the grid has become a hindrance to glory at Silverstone it would seem.
None of the last five pole sitters at Silverstone have gone on to take the chequered flag, while only two of the last ten have; Sebastian Vettel in 2009 and Fernando Alonso in 2006.
Meanwhile, Hamilton himself has failed to convert his two previous pole positions at Silverstone into race victories, instead claiming both of his wins at the famous circuit from sixth and fourth on the grid respectively.
Considering there was only 0.113 seconds between the Silver Arrows in Q3 as well, Rosberg looks a very attractive bet at 2/1 to spoil the the home crowd’s party with a third straight race win.
One thing is for sure, barring any race incidents the Mercedes are in a league of their own at Silverstone, with Hamilton’s pole-sealing lap timed a full 0.837 secs faster than Felipe Massa in third.
For this reason, Ladbrokes dual race market on both Hamilton and Rosberg finishing one and two looks worthy of investment even at skinny odds of 1/4.
Massa’s brilliant display was in keeping with a fine qualifying session for Williams, as the British team locked out the second row of the grid ahead of the two Ferraris.
Superior straight line speed looks like being key around Silverstone’s expansive track, lending attraction to both Massa and Valtteri Bottas’ odds of 2/1 for a podium.
The 16/1 about any Williams car managing a win at the circuit which rarely sticks to the script could also be a highly-profitable risk for punters to take.
