Crystal Palace could beat London rivals to Inter Milan star

Crystal Palace could jump ahead of Premier League rivals Watford in the race to sign Inter Milan’s Davide Santon, with Eagles manager Alan Pardew keen on a reunion.

Santon, who was bought by Pardew at Newcastle in 2011, only joined the Serie A giants earlier this year but after being offered to the Hornets as part of a £7m package including Zdravko Kuzmanovic Pardew has been alerted to his availability.

The player has stated that he is “in the dark” about the offer to the Hornets and is happy to stay in San Siro , but with Roberto Mancini clearly deeming him surplus to requirements the 24-year-old could be on the move regardless.

The Italy international was an ever-present in the Magpies’ starting XI under Pardew and the chance to team up once more with his old mentor could prove more attractive than a sting with the newly-promoted Hornets.

Inter’s own valuation means the former Magpie would be available at less than the £5.3m Pardew originally paid to take him to St James’ Park and with more experience for less money the deal would represent something of a bargain for the Eagles, especially if Santon goes on to emulate or exceed the levels he reached in the north-east.

The Santon interest comes hot on the heels of a bizarre link between the Selhurst Park club and real Madrid legend Iker Casillas.

With Los Blancos on the verge of snatching David de Gea away from Manchester United Casillas is said to want to fulfil a career and life ambition by living and playing in London.

With Chelsea, Tottenham and now Arsenal all well stocked in the ‘keeper departments, Palace look the club most likely to win the race should the 34-year-old decide to call time on his Bernabeu tenure.
