Cold shoulder treatment sees Lennon edge closer to Everton move

Published:

You know there is a transfer window in progress when the obligatory rebel is forced to train with the kids, but in this case Aaron Lennon won’t care a jot as long as he secures a move away from Tottenham.

In fact, the ignominy of keeping youth for company does in the majority of cases indicate a transfer will not be far away.

Everton will certainly be hoping so. It has been a little quiet at Goodison Park where incoming players are concerned, so Lennon’s potential arrival would act as a shot in the arm to supporters of the club.

Roberto Martinez has managed to secure the permanent signings of Tom Cleverley, Gerard Deulofeu and lesser known Belgian forward David Henen.

However, with other big clubs actively seeking to relieve the Spaniard of prize assets such as John Stones and James McCarthy, Martinez will be hoping he can persuade them to stay by strengthening his squad further.

Lennon offered Everton real dynamism following his mid-season loan switch from White Hart Lane and securing the 29-year-old’s services on a permanent basis is thought to be a priority for Martinez.

Spurs giving some ground on the mooted £9m asking price is the only stumbling block, but as the Daily Telegraph report, as time begins to run down even notorious hard-baller Daniel Levy should soften.

Mauricio Pochettino is believed to have designs on Everton’s Kevin Mirallas still too, so if the the Spurs gaffer gets his way then some sort of swap deal may yet be brokered.

If Everton continue to be put off by Spurs’ stance on Lennon’s fee, then rumours have surfaced that West Ham are also mulling over a move.
