2012 Wimbledon finalist a fine price to make the 2015 showpiece

The second Thursday of Wimbledon is women’s semi-finals day and due on court is a former finalist given tasty odds by Ladbrokes to reach her second showpiece in three years.
That player is 13th seed Agnieszka Radwanska, who has carried her fine form from Eastbourne’s lawns – where she also made the final – into her favourite Grand Slam.
The Polish number one is 1/1 to defeat one of the rising stars of women’s tennis in the shape of Garbine Muguruza and given the disparity in experience at the business end of Slam’s, the 4/5 on the Spaniard feels remarkably short.
Muguruza’s favouritism is largely based on winning both prior encounters this season, though the overall head-to-head stands at two wins apiece, with Radwanska 1-0 ahead in Slams.
That 6-1, 6-3 victory arrived last year at the Australian Open and despite losing out to her 21-year-old opponent on hard courts twice early in the current season, Radwanska represents a different prospect on the green stuff.
Her percentage, counter-attacking tennis has propelled the Pole to that 2012 final and another SW19 semi within the past three years, while the more explosive Muguruza is in completely unchartered territory.
The clay court specialist has previously come unstuck in the first and second rounds at Wimbledon.
Still, the Spaniard’s impressive list of victims en route to this clash means this Barcelona resident cannot be taken too lightly, with world number five Caroline Wozniacki among them.
As was the case when the pair met in Sydney this year, this match could well go the distance with Radwanska to prevail 2-1 priced up at 10/3 by Ladbrokes.
Three sets is given even more credence by virtue of the fact 16 of Muguruza’s 25 matches versus the current top 25 in the world have seen a decider contested.
Exactly three sets is a 5/4 chance and not a bad covering wager at all.
